Thousands Of Lightning Strikes Overnight

A heavy-duty lightning storm affected parts of the island last night and this morning. Provincial Airlines and Aerospace meteorologist Brian Walsh says the number of lightning strikes in Newfoundland over that period exceeded the number in all of the rest of Canada combined. Something he calls a rare occurrence.

Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro reported 34,000 lightning hits on their tracking system and while lights did flicker in some places, there were no outages.
